About the artist:

Rachelle Bussières explores the various material, technical and formal properties of photography and the elemental process. Through observation, research and experimentation, Bussières creates photograms that serve as studies on the relationship between the absorption of light, the geographical component and the optical experience. The works presented at the residence are photograms created by the lumen print process through layers of natural and artificial light, of those specific locations, to create hues and gradations of colors. Each piece is about the variations of the elements in a specific space and time, and the way in which it impacts and defines human consciousness and existence.

Bussières earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and has completed residences from Vermont Studio Center, The Banff Center, Headlands Center for the Arts and won numerous awards from The Magenta Foundation, Minnesota Street Project, 10,00 degrees Foundation, Museum of Contemporary Photography. Bussières has exhibited internationally at Pier 24 Photography San Francisco, Norway, Park Avenue Amory, New York, Galerie L’Inlassable, Paris, and is in the collection of Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago. She is currently completing her residency at SIM, Reykjavik, Iceland.
